Veteran’s Banger Rally 2021 UK Event (Giving back to the UK economy)

Press release: April 2021

Welcome to the second of our regular press releases regarding the Veterans Banger Rally 2021.

We are a group of over 60+ teams taking part under guidance of our founder and organiser, John McGowan from Prestatyn, North Wales. (Himself a veteran)

Our event was due to take the form of a charity rally from the UK to Gibraltar in aid of service charities and was due to take place in September 2021, however after carful consideration and discussions with the UK, Spanish and Gibraltar governments, it was decided that we would move to “Plan B” and help to support the UK tourism industry.

The rules of the charity rally are simple.

· At least one participant of the rally must be either a veteran or serving member of the UK armed forces.

· Vehicles taking part cannot cost more than £500 each to purchase.

· Decorate your car in any way you see fit.

· Raise funds for your own charity if you wish.

· Drive the 1500+ mile course in the five days of the rally.

Just by entering the rally, each team is supporting our nominated charities for this year as a percentage of their entry fee goes to our charities, which are :

· SSAFA (Sailor, Soldier Air Force Association)

· Royal British Legion

· Sir Tom Moore Foundation

Not only is this event a charity one, but it is also an opportunity to raise awareness of veterans needs and to showcase the power of inclusion within a “veterans community”.

A lot of veterans have vivid memories and flashbacks from their time in the forces and whilst, there is a great deal of support from various charities and agencies, there is still NOT ENOUGH to support everyone.

This event allows these veterans to chat to each other in a way that they may have not been able to do with partners or friends in the civilian world as they feel that the “banter or camaraderie” would be misinterpreted, however by being able to get back to that “lost” camaraderie will be useful as a sounding board for their words and thoughts.

This event hopes to really help some of our service veterans and maybe, if we can replace, just one bad experience, with a new, better experience, then, we are doing our job.

We have teams from all over the UK descending on the starting point of the National Armed Forces Arboretum in Staffordshire on Monday 6th September for registration.

Tuesday 7th – A gathering of the teams for a small parade of veterans and wreath laying ceremony to al those that have fallen, before setting off to our first overnight location of Llandudno.

Wednesday 8th – Llandudno to Torquay

Thursday 9th – Torquay to Skegness

Friday 19th – Skegness to Newcastle Upon Tyne. The teams of veterans will be inviting 20 members of staff from the Royal Victoria Infirmary along to a “NHS Hero’s Thank You” night, where the teams will dig into their own pockets to look after our heroes for the evening.

Saturday 20th – Newcastle to Runcorn, via Blackpool for a photoshoot.

Arriving at the Royal British Legion in Runcorn for our final awards evening and finish party.

It is envisaged that we will encounter a lot of media coverage from this venture, and we welcome as much publicity as is possible to promote the work of not only the service charities, but also the wonderful array of local and national charities that will benefit from this event, especially after such a dreadful period recently.

We are reaching out to agencies and media outlets such as yourselves to not only follow the event in your area as it happens, but also to help us to promote even more diversity in the work that we are doing.

YOU can help us in this way by helping to promote the event NOW so that we can gain even more veterans and service personnel to join us and make this event the success it deserves to be.

This event is being ran as a “Non-Profit-Making Organisation” and any money raised will be utilised to help fund the event and our outgoings, but also to help to fund our three nominated charities.

If you would like to find out more about our venture, feel free to check out our website at www.veteransbangerrally.co.uk or you can email John at veteransbangerrally21@gmail.com or call him direct on 07710 420185.

Thank you for your time.
